Story by story, charm by charm

The charm library

Francesca doesn't glue charms at random. Every bedazzle is placed with a reason: a starfish for a new beginning, a gecko for the friend who always lands on their feet, a turtle for family that stays together. You pick the story; she maps where it sits.

  • Sea

Starfish · Shells · Sea glass · Pearls · Sand dollars · Mermaid tails

  • Reptiles

Geckos · Lizards · Turtles · Chameleons · Little snakes

  • Animals

Butterflies · Birds · Dolphins · Paw prints · Bunny ears · Fish

  • Symbols

    Initials · Hearts · Crowns · Aeroplanes · Birthstones · Dates · Numbers

Map your charms

What the sparkle means

Francesca draws a tiny map before she touches thread. Every charm position carries a meaning: crown, band, brim, or drop — so the hat tells the story even when you don't.

  • ✦ Starfish

Every new beginning. Placed where the sun hits first.

  • ✦ Gecko

Luck, patience and the friend who always lands on their feet.

  • ✦ Turtle

Slow luxury. Long love. Family that sticks together.

  • ✦ Lizard

Courage to start again. Francesca's favourite charm.

The placement rules

  • Crown charms = the heart of the story.
  • Band charms = the people you carry closest.
  • Brim charms = the adventures ahead.
  • Drop charms = memories that hang in the light.

"The hat should whisper the story before you do."

Worn by everyone

Six years old to seventy-four. Kyoto to Bridgetown. Quiet and elegant, or loud and covered in feathers — the hat changes, the idea never does.

  • Elegant Japanese grandmother in a cream linen shirt wearing a wide-brim straw hat with ivory silk ribbon, pearl cluster and a gold crane charm

    Paper Crane

    Keiko · 74 · Kyoto

She folded a thousand cranes the year her husband was ill. One gold crane sits at the crown — the last one she folded, the day he came home.

  • Nigerian woman laughing in a coral silk dress wearing a straw fedora beaded with her full name, cowrie shells and enamel butterflies

    Name Song

    Folashade · 34 · Lagos

Her grandmother chose her name and nobody ever shortened it. So we beaded every single letter, full length, in the colours of her naming ceremony.

  • Studio portrait of Francesca in a black tee wearing a straw hat with a black ribbon band, gold starfish, pearls, a crystal drop and a tiny gold gecko

    Midnight Straw

    Francesca · 10 · Cascais

The founder's own. Black silk band, a gold starfish for Guincho, pearls from her grandmother's necklace, and one tiny gecko — because she loves what other people find strange.

  • Six year old boy with curly hair grinning in a mini straw cowboy hat with a gecko, dinosaur, pastel pom poms and a gold letter C

    Brave Boy

    Caleb · 6 · Austin

Every charm is something he was scared of and did anyway: the lizard at the zoo, the dinosaur museum, the first sleepover. His gold C for the hospital week.

  • Brazilian woman in a neutral slip top wearing a spectacular carnival straw hat with jewel-toned feathers, sequins, mirrored discs and crystal drops

    Carnival Heart

    Isabela · 27 · Rio

Her mother danced in the same bloco for thirty years. Every feather is one of her mother's colours; the mirrored discs are so she can always find her in the crowd.

  • Francesca wearing the Azulejo Swallows hat trimmed with blue and white tile beads, ceramic swallows, shells and a gold starfish

    Azulejo Swallows

    Francesca · 10 · Cascais

    Cold Blood, Warm Heart

    Ha-eun · 16 · Seoul

Everyone has a story

Every generation, every culture, every season — the concept never goes out of date, because the story always changes.

  • Every generation

Mini, mum and grandma sizes. Matching sets that get handed down, not thrown out.

  • Every culture

You choose the symbols — never us. Any alphabet, any tradition, any meaning.

  • Every season

Charms unclip. Summer straw, autumn ribbon, winter felt, spring bloom — one hat, many chapters.

The family walking together on the sand at Guincho, each wearing a hat that tells who they are — Francesca's reptile and starfish boater, Charlotte's crystal star bucket hat, Mum's pearl and gold heart fedora, and Lucas's steel-hoop black trilby

Meet Francesca

Started at ten years old with a box of shells

Francesca is ten, lives by the Portuguese coast, and started this at her kitchen table with a shoebox of shells, ribbon and beads. One idea: a hat should say something. She asks every customer about their life first, then designs around the answer.

Every order is still cut, threaded, wrapped and packed by hand at her workbench — with a handwritten card explaining what each charm means.
